Have a look at what's happening in our school.
Today we held the last of our Easter Egg raffles. Pupils have been raising money over lent for Trocaire’s Lenten appeal and our final total was £142.10- a big total for such a small school. Well done to all the pupils and parents for contributing to such a worthy cause.
Today we welcomed Charlie and Kirsty from the LIFE Raft program to talk to us about their jobs and the upcoming project on the Island. All pupils were given a bird to research and draw. Over the holidays, pupils can take part in a research project to find out the weight, size, colour and other facts about their bird. Pupils also learnt about other islands in the world where rats have been eradicated and the impact this has had on the bird population. Please see photos of the afternoon.
On Monday 17th April we will have our first wellbeing day of the new academic term- Mindful Monday. The theme of this one will be: RATHLIN ROCKS. We will use the day to explore what it means to live on the island and learn more about the Island. Pupils will take part in the following activities:
Pupils can wear their own clothes for the day but as we will be walking, please ensure they have suitable footwear for a visit to the beach.
Today pupils and staff celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in school. We started the day by listening to the story of St. Patrick and thinking about how he was called to serve God in Ireland. After assembly, we had a team quiz- the theme was ‘The Glens of Antrim and Ireland’. We then took part in a whole school Ceilidh lead by Julie-Ann. Lunch was provided by Patricia, a delicious traditional Irish fry up. After lunch, we took part in a Gaelic Football session and finished the day with a traditional Irish myth.
P4-P7 continue to look at the skills of Gaelic football in their PE lessons. Today they have mastered the hand-pass.
Today in maths lessons P4’s were using Base 10 and counters to look at maths questions involving subtraction. This allowed pupils to use a range of pictorial, abstract and concrete ways of exploring the theme.
Please see the poster for information about the 16th March. Pupils to wear green to school that day.
Some staff took part in ‘The Glens Healthy Places 2’ project. We are one of eleven schools taking part and the next section of the program is called ‘Sunrise’. It will focus on building emotional health and resilience for the children and parents will also be involved. We plan to commence the program after the Easter break and more information will be given out then. Keep an eye out for any updates.
We had a great day celebrating world book day. Pupils brought in their character teddy with their favourite book. Throughout the day we took part in book activities including peer reading with older and younger pupils, the DEAR (Drop, Everything And Read) bell and we had a special book day assembly. Have a look at the pictures.
We are happy to announce that we taking part in 'The Irish News Young News Readers' Media Project. This project provides a weekly School Edition newspaper accompanied by an educational resource booklet to aid the development of literacy skills and critical thinking at Key Stage 2.
