Have a look at what's happening in our school.
We had a great day at our annual end of year BBQ and end of year celebration. Thank you to Patricia for organising it and making such lovely food.
Today we held our annual prizegiving in school. During the presentation we looked back on the all the things we have achieved as a school and we also said goodbye to our P7 pupil Rowan. The final presentation of the day was made to Mrs. Margaret McQuilken for her contribution to the school governing body. Well done to all our winners including our parents.
Please see a selection of our special homework for the month of June.
Our P5-P7 class had their final trip of the year to Ballycastle on Monday. They had breakfast in the café to start the day and spent the rest of the day in the parks and at the sprinklers on the seafront. Thankfully the warm weather meant they could really enjoy the sprinklers.
On Monday our P2-P4’s visited St. Patrick’s PS in Glenraiff where they took part a morning of STEM related activities. They enjoyed a snack with their hosts and made new friends along the way. Thank you to everyone at the school for a warm welcome.
Today we welcomed members of the coastguard team to our school. They showed us the equipment they use and explained the process of rescuing people on the Island.
On Tuesday we welcomed Tania, Dermot and Clyde from the island’s fire service to talk to us about their role and how we can keep safe this summer. We got the opportunity to see inside the fire station, look at the equipment and even try on some of their specialist clothing.
On Friday we attended our graduation day in the University of Ulster Coleraine. This was the final part of the Architects of Change project that we have been doing with Jenny and Lolly from the University. After our graduation, we had a tour of the campus- the highlight being the tour of the studios. We then had lunch before travelling back to Ballycastle to catch the ferry.
On Wednesday we welcomed a team of nurses from the Public Health Agency to the school to talk to us about keeping safe in the sun. We learnt that you need to apply lots of sunscreen (factor 30 and above), drink lots of water, avoid sunburn and wear a hat, t-short and sunglasses. For more information see www.careinthesun.org
On Tuesday 11th June we celebrated our annual sportsday at the harbour front on Rathlin. The weather was extremely kind to us and pupils took part in a range of activities- throwing, targets, sprinting and the poc fada. Parents also enjoyed a range of activities. Thank you to Boyle’s spar Bally castle for sponsoring the activity pack and to the Co-op on the island for the kind gift of lollies.
