• Fire service visit

  On Tuesday we welcomed Tania, Dermot and Clyde from the island’s fire service to talk to us about their role and how we can keep safe this summer. We got the opportunity to see inside the fire station, look at the equipment and even try on some of their specialist clothing.

  

• Architects of change- Graduation

  On Friday we attended our graduation day in the University of Ulster Coleraine. This was the final part of the Architects of Change project that we have been doing with Jenny and Lolly from the University. After our graduation, we had a tour of the campus- the highlight being the tour of the studios. We then had lunch before travelling back to Ballycastle to catch the ferry.

  

• Sun Safety Talk

  On Wednesday we welcomed a team of nurses from the Public Health Agency to the school to talk to us about keeping safe in the sun.  We learnt that you need to apply lots of sunscreen (factor 30 and above), drink lots of water, avoid sunburn and wear a hat, t-short and sunglasses. • Sportsday 2024

  On Tuesday 11^th June we celebrated our annual sportsday at the harbour front on Rathlin. The weather was extremely kind to us and pupils took part in a range of activities- throwing, targets, sprinting and the poc fada. Parents also enjoyed a range of activities. Thank you to Boyle’s spar Bally castle for sponsoring the activity pack and to the Co-op on the island for the kind gift of lollies.

  

• KS1 author virtual workshop

  As part of a libraries NI initiative, KS1 pupils enjoyed a brilliant interactive workshop with the author Clive McFarland on Thursday. They produced some stunning artwork and a brilliant story. For information on Clive please see his website https://www.clivemcfarland.com.

  

• School Visit to W5

• Trip to Cushendun

  As part of our Architects of Change (Future islands) project we visited Glenmona House in Cushendun on Friday 17^th May working with two other local schools- Ballycastle Integrated and Armoy primary, we had to investigate what caused the death of a Robin. In the end we discovered it was actually a human and not another bird nor mammal. We had a great day in the sun and got to go on the top deck of the double-decker bus on the way back to the ferry.

  

• Outdoor Learning

  On Friday afternoon pupils went to the beach for their outdoor learning session. Using natural resources, they had to create their own piece if artwork.

  

• BeProud Afternoon

  Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended our BeProud afternoon. It was great to see so many interesting conversations taking place about the pupils’ work. Listening to the pupils tell you how proud they are of their work, makes us as a staff very proud of them.

  

• Fabulous Friday

  We had a really busy Friday today with two workshops to keep us busy. First we had Future Island as we made our very own terrariums. After that, Charlie- from Liferaft- visited to start our project with a partner school in the Isles of Scilly- St.Martin’s.
