Have a look at what's happening in our school.
The Daily Mile initiative is a school-based physical activity program encouraging children to run, jog, or walk for 10 minutes each day during school hours. It was founded in 2012 in Scotland and has since expanded globally. The initiative aims to improve children's physical health, mental well-being, and concentration in the classroom. It is inclusive, requires no special equipment, and is designed to be non-competitive, ensuring all children can participate regardless of fitness level. All our pupils are taking part in this at 1pm every day.
St. Mary’s P.S. have won the “Small Primary School” award for 2024 in the Cash for Clobber competition.
A huge thanks goes to Marianne and Seamus Mc Mullan who oversee the collection and transportation of all the “clobber bags”, and have been doing so for the past 16 years.
We would also like to extend a big thank you to the people of Rathlin who have helped the school achieve this target by donating to the scheme. 124.09 kilos per child was collected and has earned us the £500 first prize. The total tonnage was 1.365 tonnes from Rathlin!!
Well done to all involved and once again thank you for all the support given to the school.
There is currently no competition for 2025 as yet however, collections will still be undertaken.
Our first Wellbeing Day of 2025 was filled with a range of activities and workshops that focused on mental health, physical activity, and emotional wellbeing. These activities- including body scan, yoga and making fruit kebabs were designed to engage and inspire students, teaching them valuable skills they can apply both at school and in their personal lives. Despite the cold weather we really enjoyed our outdoor walk- 3km covered in total.
On Wednesday we had our Christmas lunch at the manor house. Before the lunch we took part on our Christmas quiz day and we joined in the fun by wearing their coziest, most colourful Christmas jumpers, adding to the Christmas spirit. Thank you to the Manor house for the lovely meal and to Santa who had gifts for every child. Go raibh maith agat!
Well done to all out pupils who performed their Christmas play ‘Prickly Hay’ with such enthusiasm. Set in a cozy barn filled with great characters, the play followed the animals and people as they prepared for the birth of Jesus.
We are delighted to announce that we taking part in the brand new accredited scheme ‘Scoil Spreagtha’.
‘Scoil Spreagtha’ is an accredited scheme to recognise and celebrate efforts made by English-medium schools to encourage the use of Irish in the school environment. It aims to inspire schools to showcase and expand their efforts to promote the use of Irish in their school.
Tá muid ag dúil go mór le bheith ag obair i dtreo na creidiúnaithe agus bheimis fíorbhuíoch as bhur dtacaíocht lenár n-iarrachtaí.
Go raibh maith agaibh
Thank you so much for braving the elements and joining us at the Christmas PTA Craft Fair despite the challenges brought by Storm Darragh. Your support means a lot to us and helps make events like this a success.
We hope you enjoyed the day and we are truly grateful for your donations.
